Hey it's Thursday!

So................

Just to warn you, I'm in a weird mood today.

I need a thing. See everyone has a thing. Not me. My thing should just be that I'm thingless. I can't think of any one cool thing that I could do. But I digress. I suppose my thing could be that I bore you all with facts of my life, but I'm doing that already. I could do random Harry Potter facts but that would get old and unfortunately not everyone reads Harry Potter. I could talk about how much computers hate me, or how I'm bitter that my friends always inadvertently flaunt their better grades. I could gush about my awesome boyfriend or tell you how much or a depressing fuckup I am but I don't think I will. In all honesty I'm a bit of a boring person. Also my life is just so dull. The highlight of my summer days is looking up different college courses and comparing them.
'
How depressing.

Sorry, I'm just in one of my moods again. I do not watch Doctor Who. Sorry. I'm more of a Queer as Folk gal. Also Kathy (and I know you hate that) I agree Will Grayson Will Grayson was fabulous, and we gushed over it on the phone so don't worry no spoilers. Kim, don't feel bad about not seeing the movie, I myself only just saw Percy Jackson and the Olympians The Lightning Thief so I feel like a fail because my boyfriend's only been trying to get me to watch that movie for months. But whatever, I'm only on the third book. Kim are you Spanish? Or do you just throw Spanish words in there for fun? Since we don't have a theme and I don't have a thing I guess I'll tell you more about myself.

First- as I mentioned before I'm a bit of a fuckup if you want to know the full extent check out my personal blog http://liasmith96.blogspot.com/2010/06/deppression.html
I'm not always depressing. Sometimes I a just weird. Like when I dress up for no reason or do a McGonagall impersonation in Spanish (by that i mean i was talking in Spanish, not that i was in Spanish class) or wear a winter coat in the middle of July. I dance in math class with books on my head and read random books in Spanish like Artemis Fowl (in my pants) *wink* I only recently got into nerdfighting. I have always been a Harry Potter nerd mostly. I have never done anything star wars related aside from have a sith happens sticker and watching it once in Spanish. (As you may have noticed I do a lot of things in Spanish) I like to read, sing (in Spanish), dance around in supermarkets and apple stores. So um liasmith96 is my Nerdfighter, Mugglespace, etc. ning stuff screenname. Look me up homie.

Yeah that felt awkward.

I have a pool at my house though so it's all good. Well I mean I have to share it with other people in the complex but it's cool. I really miss my friends from school. Some of us (including Kathy ps I'll keep calling you that) are going bowling on Saturday or whenever, so that will be fun. Happy fourth of July every one! (As you may have noticed I do a lot of things in Spanish)

SO KIM I HAVE QUESTIONS!!! MEOW (that was to annoy KATHY!)

have you ever seen Independence Day?
Have you read Will Grayson Will Grayson?
If you have how'd you like it?
If you didn't-WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU? (JK no hard feelings)
Do the soles of your feet ever get itchy?
Do you listen to Marilyn Manson?

WTF? WHY DON'T I HAVE QUESTIONS??? I am sad now.

OK so bye I guess??

June 30, 2010

Oh my goodness Magdelina changed the font color? Why, yes I did! Heh heh.

So today I'm going to kick of a piece that I'm going to do every week, which is my "List of Awesome Things." In no particular order, the first awesome thing I've decided to discuss is....

Drumroll, please?

*drumroll*

Nintendo 64!

So about two weeks ago, I was playing Super Mario 64 (the best video game of all time), when *gasp* is froze! Now, I realize that old game systems like N64 freeze all the time, but ours had never done it before and I freaked out. I restarted it and it played fine, but the next day, it wouldn't turn on. I mean, I press the on button and the light goes on, but the screen goes black and nothing happens. Needless to say, I was devastated. It hasn't worked ever since.

So, left in such devastation, I discussed my problem with my friend. She insisted that I should move on to more recent video game platforms and catch up with the rest of the world. I flatly refused. See, I strongly believe that Nintendo 64 is the best video game console known to mankind. And I have little interest in getting a Wii. (Okay, that's a downright lie. I want a Wii SO BADLY. But 1.) I have no money and 2.) I'd still rather play N64 than Wii.)

But it got me thinking -- why was it that I loved an outdated video game so much? Why didn't I just move on? Part of it has to be the memories I have of playing N64 as a little kid with my brothers. I swear my childhood was defined by doing stuff with two older brothers, and we did play Mario Kart 64 a lot. But I do truly believe that Nintendo 64 is home to some of the best video games out there. The 1990s were such a huge time for the video game business. Nintendo had done two video game systems prior to N64 -- but N64 would be the first 3D platform. It was like an adventure; everything was new. There was a sense of adventure to every game created. Star Fox 64, Super Mario 64, Zelda: Ocarina of Time: all classics. But now when I play them, I get a sense of familiarity. By playing these RPGs, I'm on ad adventure, but I always feel safe. I can't get enough of it.

And that is why Nintendo 64 is awesome.

Needless to say, I need to go buy another
N64 off eBay or something.

In other news, I've read a lot since my last post. I finished So Long and Thanks for All the Fish, which was fantastic. I read Let It Snow, which was a lot of fun, although I admit I really didn't want to read Lauren Myracle's story. (*cough* and it didn't exceed my expectations *cough*) Now I'm rereading Harry Potter; I've gotten to the second book. My brother came home from study abroad in London and he bought me a UK edition Philosopher's Stone! I'm a total HP nerd and I've always wanted UK editions. =] Oh! And I bought Funny in Farsi by Firoozeh Dumas from Half Price Books the other day and when I was leaving the store I realized it was signed by the author!!!! I said "To Stephanie, love Firoozeh Dumas" -- I guess Stephanie didn't really appreciate the gift. =P

So that's all for today!

OH WAIT QUESTIONS.

1.) Alas, I have no secret sun burn cures. I'm super pale and burn SO easily. I've never tanned in my life, only burned. It's the bane of my summers.
2.) Romeo and Juliet just bothers me because they're like thirteen and Juliet just whines the whole freaking play. She needs to shut up. I'm a fan of Billy Shakes' comedies -- can I say Much Ado About Nothing?
3.) I can't tell if you meant a recent show or a non-recent show, so I'll answer both. Non-recent show: Seinfeld. Recent show: Glee! (I admit I'm a little fangirl), The Office, Project Runway, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Also, I really want to watch Doctor Who, but I feel like I'm really late on the bandwagon. =/

Now that's all for realz.

Tuesday the Second (and also the twenty-ninth)

It's really fucking early. Like, you cannot even comprehend how ungodly early it is. See, despite the fact that normally I am a rational person, I somehow made this crazy ass decision to have a class downtown at ten, which I have to be like half an hour early for. And I have to take the train, which will take about an hour and a half. Plus an hour of getting up, and half an hour of getting to the goddamn train. Seriously. WTF?
Anyways, it's Tuesday, if you weren't already aware. I am half asleep and I have a sunburn (I get one every year at Pride. It's like a really shit tradition), but I am still writing you this post, because if I don't do it now, I will forget. See how much I love you all?
For those of you who don't know, Chicago Gay Pride is a little insane. It's basically an excuse for all the hot gay guys to get mostly naked and display themselves on lots and lots (and LOTS) of elaborate floats. Now, the thing about the Pride parade is that it's really fucking crowded. Like, imagine being surrounded by a hundred people. Now imagine you're all in a bathroom stall. And it's insanely hot. That's Pride. But it's fun, cause you get lots of free shit. Anyways, that was my weekend.
Today in History:
In 1613 the Globe Theatre in London burned to the ground during a performance of Henry VIII. They were using a cannon for special effects, and they accidentally hit the roof, which caught on fire. I think this would easily win "Most Badass Shakespeare Production of the Century".
On a completely unrelated note, the internet at my current residence is unbelievably slow. It's not even slow, it's beyond slow. It's fucking glacial.
Anyways, to Child's questions.
1) Don't even talk about the overabundance of Starbucks until you've been to Seattle.
2) 'Make up'? Is that like code for 'steal'?
3) Hmm... Probably other than this girl who I knew that isn't like famous but she's the most amazing person I've ever known and I love her, I don't know. Honestly, I think it's just her. She's incredible.
4) I'd double major in Jurisprudence and Philosophy, with a minor in Economics, at Oxford.

And the questions for Wednesday:
1) Any good sunburn remedies?
2) What's your favourite Shakespeare? (And if you say Romeo& Juliet, you will not escape unscathed. That shit is obnoxious.)
3) Favourite TV show (that hasn't been on the air for at least five years) (and yes that counts Firefly, cause it's been eight years)?

Also, how many of you watch Doctor Who? Because that finale was the shit.
And on a related note, I cannot adequately express my love for James Marsters.

Have a good Tuesday!

HELLO ITS MONDAY!

Hello everyone its MONDAY, might I say that you all are absolutely wonderful and I loved learning to know your fascinating stories!! Currently I am not in my hometown of Framingham MA, I am in the HUUGGGE and Vast city of NY. BOOOO YANKEES, actually no, I don't really watch sports, I am myself athletically challenged so I do not enjoy watching those who are infinitely better than me, sports are also sexist hmmph. But I do know much better than to scream BOOOO YANKEES in NYC I would be beaten up, and that does not seem enjoyable. OOO haha heard a joke (Nerds don't run from fights, because nerds can't run fast!) sighhh funny

I FINISHED WILL GRAYSON WILL GRAYSON!
For those who have not read this I will give you a hint, It is a great book up until the last few chapters where it transforms in to an AMAZING BALL OF AWESOME!! READ IT!

That aside, I think I will answer my questions now. here we go

1) What is the most played song on your ipod? hmmmm let us see that would be Diary of Jane with 125 plays!, ooo you didn't ask, but my second most played song is Somewhere Only We Know and you all should listen to that one!
2)Flip Flops on boys: yes or no? Ummm, colored flip flops no, back or gray all right I'll Deal, sandals on guys is hot though
3)Why does the sky growl at me when its about to cry? Obviously because its suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Its angry and sad and so so confused, Poor sky :(
4)Why do mosquitoes always bite nice people more? BECAUSE WE TASTE BETTER! Its obvious that nice people taste yummy and mean people taste nasty and bitter.

So it is VERY HOT! 95 degrees actually, and my family is going to celebrate my mums birthday, Happy Birthday Mom! Then we might go to a wax museum which is very exciting because I would love to see the process they take to make things so lifelike!

Did you know that I have seen 20 starbucks within 30 minutes walking distance of my apartment? ITS INSANE in a very yummy way but still, absolutely crazy!

Does anyone follow this whole soccer thing? All I really know about it is that everyone goes nutso when someone scores and the vuvuzelas are THE BANE OF THE EARTH!!!! Seriously, how much more annoying can one item be! They aren't even part of african culture as they were created 9 years ago THANKYOU VERY MUCH!

Special Weekend Post!

I'm back! It's nice to have the internet again, I tell you! And now I get to answer Fred's questions, too -- here goes:

1. I /love/ puns! The one that pops into my head is a bit silly; it's from Avatar: the Last Airbender, also known as the greatest cartoon known to mankind. The main characters are trapped with this guy and they're eating. Aang or someone goes, "Let us leave!" and the other guy is like, "Lettuce leaf?" offering them lettuce. It cracks me up every time, I'll admit it.

2. Meese.... I can't think of any songs about them, but it does remind me of MooseButter, which is this a cappella group that everyone in the world should listen to. http://www.moosebutter.com/ They've got all these kooky songs that make me smile.

What?? It's NOT Christmas?!

Howdy Y'all!

It's Friday and this is my first blog! I'm Kim and I'm 15. I just moved to Florida from the Lone Star State with my Madre and twin sister Tiffany. Apparently, we're what you'd call "singin' people" (according to my Tia Jessica). That just means that we always have some sort of music going at all times. We almost never turn of the car radio. Ever. We cook with music, get dressed with music, shower with a little ladybug radio. That's just the way we do.

I'm sort of a huge science nerd. I won 10th place for my age group in science UIL at the state level a couple years back. It was pretty awesome. I want to study environmental science when i get older to help keep our pretty, blue, little planet well.... pretty and blue. I am also a huge book nerd. I love to read! I'm doing that 100 book challenge this year. I had to start counting from FFebruary because i don't remember what i read before then because of the move. So far, I've read 32 err odd books. This summer I've read 4 Maureen Johnson books and the Catcher in the Rye. All of them were really good.

So a couple days ago, i stared re reading the Harry Potter series and I realized something: I am a huge Harry Potter failure. Over the years, I've managed to read each of the seven books, like, 6 times while only buying the first and last. How is that possible?!?! I don't even know.

I have super curly brown hair (courtesy of my Grandpa Goyle) that sometimes changes colors and i think its spectacular. It kinda behaves like John's Puff though. The more stressed i get/humid is gets the more it puffs. But it mostly behaves. My mom is a single mom who happens to be gay. I'm about 5' 1" and am already taller than my mama. I prefer snail mail to other types of written communication because i like old fashioned things. Anytime i send a letter, i use my gold 'K' wax seal. I'm random, kind of shy but not really, and people tell me I'm nice but I'll let you guys judge that one.

Question time!
1) The obvious answer is 'that extra half inch'... in your pants by Posh Spice.
2)Cats are ok, but i prefer dogs or PSEs
3)I think that yogurt + pudding + unprecedented deliciousness. (I now pronounce you dessert and wife... now go make delicious children!)
4)I feel like the only person who hasn't seen that movie! I want to so bad though.

And Child, here are your questions:

1) What is the most played song on your ipod?
2)Flip Flops on boys: yes or no?
3)Why does the sky growl at me when its about to cry?
4)Why do mosquitoes always bite nice people more?

I hope that wasn't too boring and i had fun learning about each of you. That's all for this week!

and Katherine, I'll see you on Monday, DFTBA!

PS: I really want to read "Let it Snow" (that Christmas book by John, Maureen and Lauren) but they don't sell Christmas book during summer :(

IT"S LIA!!!!!! WOOT WOOT THURSDAY

Thank Godric it's finally Thursday! I thought that this day would never come. Let's see... introductions! I am Lia Smith, I like pie, I'm 14 from the same place as Katherine. My boyfriend has freckles. The end.

OK just kidding so yeah I'm Lia I'm kind of shall we say random, but I like to talk about myself so this is a good theme. You already got the rundown on how this works so I'm not going to bore you with that. I am a nerdfighter, well of course I am or I wouldn't be doing this. I am of the Harry Potter variety. I also enjoy buffy, LotR and sprinkles. wait what am i talking about? I hate sprinkles, Child's the one who likes them anyway! Sorry I'm a bit nervous my first blog post for this thingy. So I'll tell you more about myself now. I speak fairly good Spanish, i can hold up a conversation and all. I have big plans for this summer. I'm going to be in a play, I'm taking piano lessons, I am going to Orlando for the Harry Potter theme park. I plan to do independent study in math, Spanish and Italian to prepare myself for high school. I have a family reunion, guitar lessons, the works. I'm a very excitable and energetic person, I'm always bouncing around doing something! Sometimes I can sit and study or read for hours, others I don't have the patience. My end goal for the end of the summer is to drop 4 sizes because i desperately need to and not because I am unsatisfied with my appearance, but because it is honestly a matter of health. So anyone who accuses me of being a crash dieter can stop typing right now. I live with my mom cat and fish in Massachusetts, woot woot new England baby. OK I'll stop with that now sorry Child. Erm I like pie? I had my 8th grade graduation last week today! It was awesome! Just realized that I mentioned that I liked pie twice-I am such a fail. So it is officially summer and I couldn't be more excited! This blog is all over the place but no matter. So next September I will officially be a freshman. wow. i really can't believe it. I'm honestly shocked. I like to wear high heals, but not as much as child and dresses are my favorite thing, besides harry potter of course. I'm not the typical girly girl, I'm much to nerdy for that. I like playing with magnets and my favorite genre of music is wrock, though I don't discriminate, I like all music, from screamo to country baby screamo to country. OK yeah I know that I said I would stop. But really music is music I don't see why we have to discriminate between different genres. Separate but equal, isn't that what the world is supposed to be about? My mom wants to give away our cat, so sad, because I love him and he is awesome and I'll really really miss him if we have to give him away. MY hair is awesome. It is truly some of the best hair I have ever experienced. It can do anything. It's super hair. I love it. As you can see from this blog post I am a huge mash up of randomness. I just get into long tangents and then change the subject. This is one thing about me that I don't think is going to change anytime soon. And of all the crazy messed up things about myself are part of myself, so I would never change those either. Because then I wouldn't be me. Thank you and goodnight or morning, or whatever. See you later my friends!

I almost forgot Kim-
what's the best book to add 'in your pants' to the end of?
do you like cats?
what's your opinion on yogurt/pudding marriage?
have you ever seen the hangover?

Wednesday

Bonjour!

It's Wednesday, which is my day and this is my first blog! YAY! So since this is the first week and all, we're doing introductions.... As I'm sure you noticed. First off, I'm Magdelina -- you can call me Lina for short if you want. I'm 16 and from Chicago, yada yada yada. I'm a total nerd, but of course we all are, so I'll specify and say that I'm a book nerd! Or a music nerd.... Or a theatre nerd. Let me explain!

Being a book nerd: I think that the thing I love most about summer is that since there is no school, I have time to read whatever books I want. (Except for the fact that I have summer reading.... But I'm hoping I'll like those books as well.) I've just finished my junior year in high school, which proved to be just as difficult and stressful as everyone said it would be. I always had a million things to do, and so I very, very, very rarely had any time to read for fun. But now it's summer and I'm FREE! So here's my summer reading list:

~An Abundance of Katherins by John Green (I read this last week! I liked it a lot, but not as much as his other books.)
~Suite Scarlett by Maureen Johnson (Also read this last week. Also good and also not as good as her other books.)
~So Long and Thanks for all the Fish (I'm almost done with it -- very good.)
~Let it Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle
~The Bermudez Triangle by Maureen Johnson
~Reread all the Harry Potter books by JK Rowling (I've decided I'm going to do this every other summer for the rest of forever.)
~To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (It's our school play next year and I've never read it!)
~Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger (Another classic I've never read.)
~The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls (summer reading for AP Lang.)
~Some book by Bill Bryson whose title I forget. (Also summer reading for AP Lang.)

Okay, I have to admit that I'm going to have to cut this short. (Well, after I get to 500 words, that is.) The thing is that I lied earlier -- it's not Wednesday. It's Monday at the time of writing this, and I'm in upstate New York helping my grandma move from her house to an apartment. So what these means for me is that starting tomorrow (meaning Tuesday, not Thursday), the computer and internet won't work! Ugh, I really hope they set up the internet at her apartment soon; it's a little sad how much I depend on it. So I'm writing this early and my dear fellow bloggers are being kind enough to post it for me.

I was going to have two other paragraphs about how I'm a theatre nerd and a music nerd, but .... I don't have time to write them. Oh well! Not much to say there, anyway.

So I promise that normally my posts will be more interesting and not so much about me. Next week I'll have time to prepare and write a more made of awesome post, I promise! In the meantime, I hope you're all having a great summer!

Tuesday the First (and also the twenty-second)

Hello my darlings. First off, I would like to thank the lovely Child for starting off our first week with great enthusiasm. Secondly, I would like to apologize for any spelling/grammar mistakes or typos in this post- i have no idea where my glasses are, and therefore cannot see what I am typing.

Moving onward.

Now, I'm Fred. I'm a teenaged girl with a passion for politics and theatre (although those two can often be one and the same). I will be your host every Tuesday, and I will be magnificent (and also modest...).

And now for our weekly feature that I just decided I will do each week: Today in History.

TODAY IN HISTORY:

- Cyndi Lauper, singer and gay rights activist was born. For some reason I always get the Miss United States song stuck in my head when I think of her. I think that has something to do with her being dressed up as Lady Liberty at the closing (opening?) of the Chicago Gay Games. And Miss United States always reminds me of Shatner, but that's an entirely different bag of chips.

- Fred Astaire (better known as that guy from Funny Face), a singer and an actor, died. Gene Kelly (who, incidentally, was allegedly a total ass) once said: "THe history of dance on film begins with Astaire."

- Judy Garland died. SOOOOOOMEEEEE WHEEEEEEEEEEEERE OOOOOOOVER the RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAINBOOOOOOOOOOOW! (I feel like there needs to be a tasteless joke here, but I can't think of one).

- The Church forces Galileo to recant. Galileo, incidentally, was a complete badass. And really smart. And that song the Indigo Girls wrote about him was pretty good.

( You know, I was never very good at transitions.)

SO, before I leave, I shall answer Child's questions.

1) The sky is blue because that is how we perceive it.

2) I would reccomend any of Tamora Peirce's Tortall books, specifically the Kel, Alanna, and Aly series. Also the Young Wizards series by Diane Duane.

3) I honestly cannot remember why I chose the name Fred. I'm sure it was partially influenced by the death of our beloved Weasley, but there are probably other good reasons that made sense at the time. Also, it's an awesome name.

And here are Wednesday's questions, which she shall answer this weekend in a special blog post because she doesn't currently have internet:

1) What's your favourite pun?

2) Do you know any songs about meese?

Katherine Child (monday)
So I'm the first blog right? Cool. Righteous, completely down with it. Oh crap I'm first.

So before I write anything that makes me sound like an idiot (haha how ironic) I am going to say the boring stuff first, I know, bear with me. My name: Katherine Child, My nickname: Child, My alias: Claire, My age:14, My IQ: I don't know but its up there somewhere, My school: framingham high, My one true love(s), Art, Psych, and Tom Riddle, and Colin, and Miles....
OK WE ARE GOOD!!!!

So I sadly do not have any experience with blogging so this might be bad, but here goes nothing

So I wake up this morning and I'm all "oh I'm tired, hmmm let see, anything important I need to do? Oh orthodontists appointment! Really thats it, nothing else? cool". I get up (slowly, very slowly) and get in the car, and my dad drives me to the orthodontists, (or as I like to call it, purgatory) and, befitting to its name, it's fricken PAINFUL! Like really?! Do you need to inflict so much agony????? now I am just lying there with my mouth pried open and all slobbery, when this little boy in the room opposite to mine starts screaming. It sounds like he is being TORTURED and so obviously every dental correction person there HAS TO GO SEE WHATS WRONG! Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I mean it's a screaming crying kid. What it does mean is that I am left alone for thirty minutes, in pain, listening to tortured little children.

fun

ok 276 words down

After I get home it's much better. Mostly because I have my book, and I also don't have things in my mouth anymore. cough, thats what she said, cough. Ok immaturity aside its a really great book its called: Looking For Alaska. I just finished it and ITS SO SAD! sniff, its also amazing and you have to read it (if you haven't already) but seeing as your all made up of awesome i'm almost sure you've at least heard of it. Should we do something where we all read the same book and give a report on it, kind of like a book club thing? It could be a theme for the week in the future.

When i finish my book and take a few moments to let it sink in, I just sort of lounge around when Lia calls me.
and guess what
I'm monday
and guess what else
It is monday

and my blog needed to be written, the one which I of course had COMPLETELY forgotten about, so i'm sorry if the suck levels are higher than they should be... because I'm such a failure

I blame the tiny chickens in my head, they cloud my judgement.

So Fred, How are you? Do you think there is hope left for me? Do I amuse, or do I need to change stuff up, I am so looking forward to your completely bad ass blog post! here are some questions you MUST answer
-in your own words (meaning make it up) why is the sky blue?
- what is a book you recommend?
- Why the name Fred? (is it because of Harry Potter? If so, then I love you immensly)

Dftba everyone, I look forward to reading your entries

-Katherine ( ps. you can call me, Child)
